Man Who Fired Shots From Handgun On I-95 Caught By Police

A 27-year-old is behind bars after state police say he fired a gun from a car on I-95 in the middle of the afternoon on Sunday.

State Police said they received multiple 911 reports of shots being fired near both Exit 32 in Stratford and Exit 28 in Bridgeport at around 3:30 p.m.

Witnesses described a bearded man firing a handgun from a gray Ford Focus  northbound on I-95, police said.

The suspect was located a short time later with the assistance of the New Haven Police Department on Grand Avenue in New Haven.

No injuries were reported.

Matthew A. Bouton of High Ridge Drive in Bridgeport was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, discharge of a firearm, second-degree breach of peace and criminal possession of a firearm and ammunition and a dangerous weapon.

Bouton is being held on $100,000 bond and will appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Tuesday, May 22.
